Posterior capsule opacity (PCO)
Following cataract surgery and the implantation of the clear artificial lens, the remaining posterior lens capsule may become cloudy. This is unrelated to the actual cataract.
Months or even years after cataract surgery, visual deterioration – in the form of ‘cloudy vision’ – can occur.
The Nd:YAG laser is used for treatment. It can be used to treat the clouded posterior lens capsule without the need to surgically open the eye. The treatment is painless and takes about 3 minutes.
