Orthoptics, a specialist field of ophthalmology, is concerned with the screening, diagnosis and therapy of visual and perceptual disorders. Even young babies are ophthalmologically examined here. Because: for visual development and the processing of impressions, early detection and treatment of visual defects are very important. Otherwise, reduced vision can lead to developmental impairment and damage. Thus, in orthoptics, the interaction and motion control of the eyes are examined in both children and adults. Undesirable developments and diseases of the optic system, such as squints (strabismus), weak-sightedness (amblyopia), defective vision and discomfort due to optical visual impairments (asthenopia), can therefore be detected and treated early.
